Iran - Romhormuz, picnic, campfire and waterfall

Iran - Romhormuz, picnic, campfire and waterfall

We are now Family members and spend the time with our new Family. We are allowed to work there on Monday and Tuesday, and the programme continues on Wednesday.

First, there is a kind of spring festival where everyone - and I do mean everyone - sets off on a picnic. Including us. We can provide shade with our Felix, we even put up our awning for once, which we never use otherwise, and, oh wonder, even our brand-newly packed and never-used tarp (which we've been lugging around with us since 2020) finally finds a purpose: providing shade.

We chat, have a picnic, I knit, a fire is lit for tea and other delicacies. More and more members of "our" family arrive, each with a huge bowl of goodies under their arm. So we're not going to starve here.

It's simply a lovely get-together. We listen to the conversations for hours, understand nothing and yet realise that people are happy. Being together with the family makes them happy. There is a lot of laughter, joking and certainly a bit of blasphemy. But never in such a way that we feel that someone is really being harmed.

In the evening, we change locations and head further into the mountains. Here, too, there are campfires, barbecues and the usual tea. We dance, sing and celebrate. We prepare to sleep here. But they won't let us, they say it's too dangerous. The fact that we always sleep everywhere is not accepted. So we leave the beautiful surroundings and park again in the city, on some street. Too bad, but in this case the satisfaction of our hosts is more important to us than our fancy pitch.

The next day, we are whisked away to a waterfall in a beautiful, colourful mountain landscape. If I had known that a) you are alone there and b) you can swim, I would definitely have packed my swimming gear. Astonished, I am asked whether I can swim at all. I am briefly taken aback, but don't ask any further.

In the evening, another fire is made, this time outside the front door. Carpets are quickly spread out and we sit on the street, so to speak. The neighbours look over at us curiously from their carpets; we think that guests from abroad don't come so often. The night gets long and at around 2 or 3 a.m. we say goodbye to our Felix, hoping that it won't go on for long and loud outside our door. But we are so tired that our fears are unfounded: we fall asleep immediately.

Saying goodbye in the morning is difficult for all of us and drags on into the morning hours. But we are determined to keep going. A few beautiful areas and, for me, a few excavations are tempting.
