Wat Phou is a ruin. A beautiful one at that. An old temple complex. Sometime between the 6th and 14th century, they built this complex in honour of the Hindu god Shiva (later Buddha took over the sceptre). It is said that it even served as a model for Angkor Wat. I don't know if that's true. But it doesn't matter to us. What is good in any case is that this complex was rediscovered in 1866 and is now part of the Unesco heritage and thus preserved.
What is really good is that there are very few tourists here. Like everywhere else in Laos, by the way, it's early October. Angkor Wat is not that far away, so everyone goes there. Let them, we have the beautiful place to ourselves. The temple radiates a very special magic. Old stones, mossy, beautiful to look at in the afternoon sun. #watphou #champasak #temple #unesco
