Switzerland - Prejudices and unnecessary worries: cosy days in Seeland

I admit, I had no desire to spend the summer in Switzerland. While it seems that everywhere in the world - that is, in the world we have travelled so far - there are free parking spaces in the most beautiful places, in Switzerland every spot on earth belongs to someone. And precisely this someone has a penchant for prohibition signs of all kinds.

But now we have been here for a few weeks and realise: We have fallen for our own prejudice. How stupid, when we always say that travelling reduces prejudices.

Sure, we don't have to look for public washing machines, thank the family. And not for parcel stations either. And what really surprises us is that we don't really have to look far for great parking spaces. There are almost everywhere.

The Seeland region around Lakes Biel, Neuchâtel and Murten in particular are fantastic places to enjoy the balmy summer evenings, which are actually still spring evenings. We stand by the lake, stroll along the promenades. We drive into the hills and stand for days in front of small churches with 4 seats. Find shady spots along the Aare, which has less and less current from Bern onwards and is therefore perfect for the rather unsporting use with our SUP.

Gerd has his work days locally, I always look for nice places to be alone for these days. Somehow word has got around that we are in Switzerland. So it happens that I visit clients, work a lot more and our book can mature a little - as they say with wine - in peace. Or you could also say it's being ignored.

We spend the evenings with leisurely walks, spontaneously discovered live concerts by the lake or in absolute peace and quiet in the foothills of the Alps with a view of the (not for long!) snow-covered mountains.

And yes, we are also on the road, getting visits from travel friends, picking flowers at the edge of the field, cooking jam from fresh strawberries, supporting our son in his creative projects (we'll write it all down here again, I just have to get his OK first) and have both bought a half-fare card (something like a Bahncard 50) so that we can travel by train a bit more again.

All in all, and this should not go unmentioned, we are enjoying our time here very much at the moment. From time to time we will report about our experiences here. Yes, even if they are not travelogues in the true sense of the word, maybe you will be interested anyway.

PS: On 24 June 2023, we invite everyone to our very first lecture. Our favourite motorhome dealer is making his premises available to us and is even sponsoring drinks and nibbles (in Switzerland they call it an aperitif). We are already a little excited, but look forward to seeing everyone who will come and hope for a cosy Saturday evening together.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!

Sounds great and somehow very satisfied. 🥰
I would have loved to have met you.
But I'm meeting my daughter in Germany this time. 🤷
And on the 24th weekend I am fully booked.
Maybe one day it will work out.

Best wishes and have fun in Switzerland.

I can absolutely understand that. We live in Konstanz and are often on the road with our Sprinter. Also often in Switzerland. And there is ALWAYS a place to stay overnight without any prohibition signs 🙂
