We skip Sfax, Gerd quickly manoeuvres us through Tunisia's second largest city to the motorway exit. A few podcasts still need to be listened to, I knit in the meantime and we are already approaching the sunny island of Djerba.
Somewhere halfway we sleep on the side of the road on the Gulf of Gabés. The morning surprises us with a dream view of the sea, a cute café right in front of us and the best internet reception for the seminar I am giving this morning.
Around noon it's the weekend, and we take the last few kilometres to Djerba under our wheels. Our satnav has some very funny ideas, so we briefly get stuck in some winding mini-roads. As soon as the problem is solved with 27 back-and-forths, we bump through a stony and, thank God, dry riverbed. Felix rattles and our supplies, our dishes and all my wool make their way criss-cross through our van.
We're beginning to think that our Felix has a secret off-roader in him. I've suspected that about Gerd for a while now! It's not for nothing that he always wants to use maps.me, I prefer google maps, which at least knows the main roads.
The area off Djerba is flat, desert flat. The heat is increasing, as is the dust. The desire to finally get everything wet again and do our laundry intensifies in us, and it is precisely for these reasons that we check in for one or two nights at Djerba's only campsite.
As soon as we arrive, we get colourful wristbands and are now, whether we like it or not, part of the all-inclusive hotel complex to which the campsite belongs. With all the bells and whistles: evening buffet, indoor and outdoor pools, entertainment and souvenir shops. But the most important thing for us: a washing machine and fresh water, because we have run dry on the Kerkennah Islands.
Now we'll get ourselves organised and then set off to discover the island and its treasures. Because there are quite a few of them here.
Merci for "travelling with us
We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Cool campsite!
You are completely alone there, aren't you ?
How ingenious! 🌟✨
Have fun on Djerba.
Yes, we were completely alone there. Kind of spooky.
