Tunisia - Sousse, in the middle of life!

Tunisia - Sousse, in the middle of life!

The day begins with an extensive and also delicious breakfast in the hotel and a big laundry action in the room's own bathtub! What must be, must be. Tunisia is not so blessed with laundrettes and our clothes stained the fresh bathtub water a beautiful dark grey. There must have been some dust "on it".

We continue for an extended walk on the beach, the sun is shining, the sea shows its most beautiful side. God, how happy we are that our friend is about to be greeted so wonderfully by Tunisia.

In the medina, we stroll through all the alleys, marvel at the small shops once again, find one of the most beautiful cafés by chance, as always, and watch the owner prepare "Kaffee Türk" for us in the hot sand. (The last time we were able to experience this was over one and a half years ago in Gaziantep, today unfortunately on everyone's lips because of the earthquake in eastern Turkey and Syria. But we don't know that at the time. Here and here and here our memories of the city of pistachios).

On this day in Sousse, we can rejoice several times: once about the medina, the many cats, the wonderful shops and great alleys, and once about our friend, who discovers a world that is completely foreign to her, like a child with astonished eyes. Funny, we felt the same way not even 8 weeks ago.

Last but not least, and very, very necessary indeed, we send Gerd to the hairdresser, we "girls" take a seat in the visitors' row and marvel at the craftsmanship once more. It occurs to me that Regula also used to be a hairdresser, so this must be an incredibly exciting sight for her.

When the master then lays a hand on the little hairs with his magic thread, even our friend is not safe from him. But I - experienced enough in Turkey - firmly and very clearly refuse. Because I don't need the murderous pain of pulling out my hair as the end of the day. Okay, I admit it, I'm a wimp. A pretty-early wimp. But that has already saved me from a lot of pain.

Over fresh peppermint tea in the hairdressing salon, we chat for ages, laugh a lot and at some point wonder why Gerd's hair, if there is any to be seen at all, is forever being blow-dried. I'm not sure if Gerd has ever used a hairdryer. But as is so often the case when travelling: There's a first time for everything!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
