Tunisia is really strange. Surprising and beautiful. If the south with its desert is simply enchanting, the northwest surprises us with its enchanting mountain landscape.
Again and again we turn off the main road to the sea into small mountain roads. It is the mountain villages that enchant us. We give away our last Swiss chocolate to the children herding the goats through the mountains. We dance and sing in the middle of the road to 80s hits, there's no one around, we think. (As it turns out later, we certainly had spectators! - We can be embarrassing).
Eventually we reach Bizerte. We stand on the beach, are checked three times by the National Guard. And we are not sure if they really want us here. But as it is already dark and looking for a pitch in the evening always means stress, we don't move again. For once we remain stubborn.
In the morning we then discover that Urs, "our Urs", is very close by. We arrange to have breakfast together. It turns into a whole day with Urs and his travel buddy Martin. In the completely empty hotel garden we sit in the beaming sun with one or two freshly squeezed orange juices. We have wonderful conversations. At some point Urs lays his healing shaman's hands on an old spiritual wound of mine. Thank you, dear Urs, for that! And as the sun bends into the sea, we are still sitting together - having dinner.
Birthday on the road
Birthdays on long-term trips can be particularly challenging because you may not be near family and friends to celebrate the day with. It can also feel strange to spend a birthday in a new environment without the usual traditions and customs. And because it's somehow so nice, we stay until the next day, because then we celebrate Urs' first birthday on his long open-ended journey. (I put a small cake candle in a strange breakfast pastry, collect some flowers for a birthday bouquet and wrap toothbrush tablets in cheese paper, tie a bow out of leftover ribbons for a spontaneous gift).
And we know that no matter where you are in the world, it's nice to have people around you on your birthday who like you.
Ultimately, it's about making a birthday special on a long journey and enjoying what life has to offer while travelling. You can be inspired by new experiences and encounters and be open to whatever the day brings.

Happy birthday to Urs....! 🥂🎉🎈🎁🎂
I will tell him - even though his birthday was a few days ago ❤️
Always nice to read from you 🙂
Happy Birthday Urs, Maybe we can still learn a little about the laying on of hands, of course only if it is ok for all of you and you dear Heike, feel like writing something about it :)). I find it very interesting.
Hello dear Nicole.
The only thing I know is that Urs works shamanically. And in the conversation we came to a theme in my past that still sends into the present. I surrendered to his hands on my shoulder around my back (whatever he did, it was good!) and am now kind of at peace with this issue. If Urs wants to write something else about it, the comment column is open here 😉
Kind regards - Heike
