The oasis is quite far from any itinerary (okay, from our itinerary), the diversions was long but still worth it.
On the way, we hardly see any people, but here, travellers of all stripes are milling about. Tour groups of the "whole of Tunisia in 5 days" variety and long-term travellers like us. And in between, of course, everyone else.
We stroll through the still quiet morning oasis, marvelling at the rising steam of the hot spring at an early 6 ° Celsius air temperature. The sun is still at an angle and does not yet manage to warm the air and us.
Tunisians (as we learn, a funny and very friendly group of doctors who provide sexual education in the desert regions) sit at a fire and immediately invite us to "thaw" our feet at the warming fire. We laugh a lot, hold our really cold feet over the fire, Gerd almost topples over (we're laughing again!) and we make a "casual" appointment for two days from now in another town. Let's see what happens. And let's see if we want to be guided by dates.
Our campsite is surrounded by all kinds of noise: next to us is a young troop of scouts with a bar set up. Fairy lights everywhere and music at Tunisian volume. Behind us the generator of the restaurant, somewhere in the distance the dromedaries are "talking" in "camel". Similar to donkeys, only louder, more fervent and yes, more persistent...
Thank God we don't need the petrol station in Ksar Ghilane, we refuelled in Douz, because here we probably wouldn't get "sans soufre", no sulphur-free diesel.
We enjoy the stay in the oasis very much and when we have had enough oasis, we pack our stuff - not without having quickly climbed into the hot spring one more time - and roll off. Let's see what we encounter along the way.
PS: Regarding the dromedaries. No, we deliberately did not go camel trekking. Because we can't bring ourselves to do that. Well, that's just the way we are 😉 .

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most?
