Greece - Goodbye, beloved Koroni

127 - Greece Review - A Winter in Lockdown - Great Journey

Great Journey 🏍 Day 233
We wanted to discover Greece, spend the winter here, explore the islands and soak up history and antiquity. We wanted to spend the evenings in tavernas, the days on the beach. We wanted to learn Greek and discover so much.

And then, immediately after our entry on 5 November, we and everyone else were sent into lockdown. Which, by the way, continues to this day.

I will write about this on 6 November:
"Greece, you can do better than that! Show us what you are all about. Show us your beauty, your wonderful people and your sun!"

And Greece showed what it can do. Even though our radius was actually only about 50 kilometres, we learned to love the people, appreciate nature and the sea taught us to be cold. We met such wonderful people. We fell head over heels in love with this magical Koroni. We became lazy. Enjoyed the days in cosy monotony.

Instead of constantly frolicking in the waves, we hiked through the mountains, instead of gourmandising in tavernas, we cooked ourselves. Feta on top: bang, Greek ready! Instead of antiquity, there were abandoned villages in the mountains. Instead of island hopping, we travelled micro-regionally within such a small radius that we sometimes thought we would soon know all the alleys and streets.

And now we could moan. Instead, we are so incredibly happy to have experienced this calm time in the current "stormy sea". Are grateful for the happiness with our flat with sea view, our landlady, our (our?) cats, our favourite mini-market. And are happy about the fact that when we walked through the little town, we were greeted here and there, we know the people a bit by now and were allowed to be part of Koroni for almost half a year.

Koroni, you have made us fall in love! You have given us such a gift. Thank you for the wonderful time.

Now it's time to move on, we're packing everything into our 3 motorbike cases these days and off we go. Where to? Well, if we only knew... Making plans is not really our core competence.

Hello dear Heike,
I have always enjoyed reading your site and looking at the great pictures. I hope you will soon be able to continue your journey as you have planned it. I would be very happy if the page continues as it has done so far.
Despite the circumstances, you've done reasonably well so far, so take care.

Greetings from Hanover by Jürgen Gonnermann at Heise-Medien
