Italy - Rome

Great Journey 🏍🏍 Day 58

Rome is loud. Rome is lively. And Rome has too little green and too much stone for our liking. We notice this especially when we plop down on the sofa in the evening and feel our feet and especially the soles of our feet.

But Rome is also beautiful, enchanting, touching and real. Rome is ancient, on every street corner the plaster is crumbling and something new is shining. Sometimes I think to myself, why don't you tidy up, why don't you finish something, why don't you renovate so that it lasts longer. And then I think, oh no, leave it, it's so beautiful. We are both really impressed by Rome. A friend once said he could spend weeks in Rome. I laughed out loud. Now I can understand him.

I especially like the roof terraces that you can see everywhere on the roofs. The view from below only gives us a glimpse of part of it. But sometimes, when we are standing on one of the seven hills of Rome, we might catch a glimpse. And then it becomes green, then it becomes cosy. These are oases where people can take a break from the noise and the stony Rome.
