Italy - San Gimignano

18 October 2020

Great Journey 🏍🏍 Day 43

We are supposed to visit San Gimignano. That's what they said. All of them! We leave Florence and Siena behind and drive to San Gimignano. To be honest, we had wanted to skip Florence anyway. And maybe Siena. Been there several times, still think it's the greatest city in Italy and will definitely come back. When we're retired or something. With a coach and a coffee party.

Now this little town, whose name just won't roll off my tongue. It was only supposed to be a small lunch & sightseeing stop. And then the rain came. And an acute unwillingness to drive on spread. "Shall we get a little room here, take an extended nap and just do nothing for a change except listen to the pattering rain outside our window?" That sounded so tempting.

The next morning brought us sunshine, empty streets, many towers (gender towers - and at first I thought male/female, but far from it, because there seem to be so many genders!), very high steps up the tower and also four or five tourists (including us!).
