Switzerland - General Assembly "Digital Nomads Switzerland

Längerer Beitrag – schneller Überblick:

Switzerland is - as we once heard years ago - the country of clubs. There are said to be 100,000 of them, out of a population of just under 9 million. We also heard once that every Swiss person is a member of 5 clubs on average. (Or was it even 7?)

One association that is particularly close to our hearts in our travelling lifestyle is the Digital Nomads Association Switzerland. Personally, we are not so fans of the term digital nomads, we prefer location-independent working. But that sounds a bit bumpier, sure.

What are these digital nomads actually?

On the association's website I find this definition:

Digital nomads use digital technologies to work remotely, they have the opportunity to work and travel at the same time, they can determine the frequency and choice of location, and they visit at least three places per year that are not their own home or the home of friends or family.

This definition should be contextualised by six variables that defy strict definition but represent important characteristics of the digital nomad:
(1) frequency and autonomy of mobility; (2) homebase practices; (3) national vs. transnational travel; (4) legal legitimacy; (5) work-life integration vs. work-life balance; and (6) use of coworking spaces.

Okay, so actually that's exactly what we've been doing for 3 years. And that's why we've been a member of the association since 2017. This is about public relations (informing, legitimising, motivating), a community and representing the interests of digital nomads.

The General Assembly

Normally we participate in the AGM digitally, via zoom. The votes, the topics are shared digitally. This time we were in Switzerland and were able to participate in real life, really on the spot. There was a barbecue, there was, as always, an "777" - a short impulse talk, as on every 7th of the month at 7:07 am. And we voted on the board and all sorts of other topics, got up to date on the latest developments and above all: we met people again whom we haven't seen in the flesh for a long time.

The association is open to everyone who feels somehow connected to the topic. People who simply want to inform themselves. People who are or have been on the road. People who find it interesting to deal with the topic more intensively. Everyone from young to old is there, it's great fun to get to know the many different ways of life and to get in touch about the unifying theme that links working and travelling.

If you're up for it too, take a look here: https://www.digitalenomaden.ch/

In autumn there will be a conference on the topic, as always, this will take place online and offline: https://www.digitalenomaden.ch/konferenz/

Thanks to the board for organising the evening, it was great to see you all again!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
