Great Journey 🇳🇴 Day 541
"Say, Lene lives up here, doesn't she?"
"Right! Shall we visit her sometime? She always says it's so nice at her place."
One text message later and we have an appointment. We drive the beautiful coastal road to Mikkelvik. Where is that? Behind Tromsø, bridge, island, long tunnel, next island and then the plateau and there you are.
From the second island on, the road is very icy, Felix is ice-pro by now. At some point we see the sign that truck drivers have to "chettele". Hm, should we indeed put on snow chains for the first time? 10% gradient, glassy road?
We disagree. But when a VW bus in front of us slowly but surely slides towards us (i.e. back), we decide: mir chettele. And we realise: good decision. So we slowly bob up the slope, then across the plateau and later down the slope again.
Arriving in Mikkelvik, we are allowed to stand directly by Lene in the driveway with a fjord view. Instead of hitting the driveway, Felix makes his way through the deep snow, and while manoeuvring around, he breaks a snow chain.
The neighbour quickly rushes over: with his tractor (everyone here seems to have a tractor) he first tracks the driveway, then proudly fetches his snowmobile and wants to pull us out. Lene shovels and laughs her head off at our little plastic shovel, "You can pack that up again, the mini-thing! Gerd does manage to drive Felix out of the snow and I am allowed to fumble the tangled snow chain out of Felix's hip joint.
It's actually quite a nice day, isn't it? But we can already say one thing: this Mikkelvik is magically beautiful.
