Bulgaria - Making up for parental neglect

29 May 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 268
Now she is a quarter of a century old, our little one. And while we are sitting in the sunset, it bursts out of her: "We always had to take this individual holiday! We never went to a real all-inclusive resort! Always menus in rustic restaurants instead of buffets."

That sits. You spend years thinking about how to show your children the world and then you realise that you've failed, big time. How are they supposed to know what all-inclusive is? They've never had a holiday with wristbands, buffets 3 times a day, pizza by the pool in between and all-you-can-eat ice cream in the kids' corner and cocktails around the clock and without leaving the resort! And above all: after 2 weeks A-I without any connection to the country and the people!

What a couple of bad parents we are!

In order to save the possible therapist costs in later years, we are now investing in our child here on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, she calls it investment in human capital. We book 2 nights in a resort with blue wristbands and everything.

We quickly realise (well, they do, we had already guessed) that it's not really that great after all. You can only eat as much as usual. You (we) can also only do sport once a day. Since we are not really interested in alcohol, the all-you-can-drink is also omitted. There are even enough pool towels and enough sunbeds for everyone.

As the complex is almost empty and we and the other 6 or 7 guests are literally "waited on" by crowds of staff, we feel very strange. We hardly get to talk to the locals - how could we? - Of course, we don't leave the hotel for 2 days (otherwise it wouldn't be real-AI) and we have the feeling all the time that we are missing out on something of the great offer. That is stress on a completely different level.

So, after a lot of culture, history, nature, now a . We hope we haven't made any other adult-wardening mistakes that we'll have to iron out in the next few days. 🥰
