Italy - Rome by night

Great Journey 🏍🏍 Day 57

Actually...
So the sentences start when you make plans and life gets in the way.

Actually, we wanted to eat a little less today.
Actually, we wanted to take time for the Colosseum today.

And then a wonderful meeting intervened. We let the Colosseum be the Colosseum (it will probably still be there tomorrow, it's been there for a while) and enjoyed an early evening together (because restaurants have to close at 6pm) with friends we hadn't managed to meet in Berlin. And yes, we feasted on this delicious Italian cuisine for the second time that day.

And then all we really wanted to do was go home to our flat. Read a bit, play around a bit. Actually. But somehow we were standing at the Piazza Venezia and looked up at the illuminated something. Something big, anyway. We creep slowly around and discover the name: "Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II" and learn that after a fever-measuring action we are allowed to go in and up. We do. And are impressed once again.

The fact that the moon still shines nicely on the Colosseum, street musicians play catchy songs at our feet and we are almost alone is probably part of our Rome experience.
