Iran - A no-go desert day

Iran - A no-go desert day

Early Heike catches the desert fox. Or something like that. I wake up. It's so quiet around us that I'm glad that the soft hissing of the heating tells me that there can still be noises.

It's still a little dark, the sun isn't shining yet. But from our Felix roof hatch lookout, I can already see the shimmering sky coloured light blue-green-orange-pink. As always in the desert.

I quickly throw on some clothes, make myself a coffee, slip into my slippers and set off. Seconds later I'm back in the camper, grabbing thick winter shoes, a long winter jacket and an extra hat. 1 degree Celsius. Outside.

It was so nice and cosy and warm in Felix, the desert promised summer. Well, I must have been fooled.

So, wrapped up tight, I set off a second time. Gerd sleepily asks why I'm setting off so early. "You can watch desert foxes at dawn," I whisper to him quietly and smile to myself, knowing that he will quickly follow me. He won't miss the desert foxes after all. (Except that we won't see any, but I couldn't have known that, could I?)

Just as we reach the crest of the largest sand dune here, the sun peeks out from behind the mountains. We sit down in the sand, watch the sun rise, I warm my hands with a hot cup of coffee (good idea!), and once again it's all over us.

What have we done to deserve such a good life? In the middle of nowhere, because deserts really do feel like nowhere, we sit there, far away from friends and family and feel so close to everything. Although we are on a long journey here, we have the feeling that we have arrived. Hand in hand (which is also possible here behind the dune), we walk through the sandy mountains. "Thank you for following my idea of travelling a bit," I say to my loved one. "Thank you for having this idea."

Since we have been travelling and experiencing so many wonderful moments together, we have become professionals in gratitude. Practising gratitude pros, so to speak.

We trudge over the sandy mountains for hours, I enjoy the warming sun (and soon start to curse my winter jacket), Gerd fixates on everything that moves (could be a desert fox). We also follow mysterious animal tracks and hope that we don't lose our bearings in all this.

Back at the Felix, we unfortunately forget to shake out our shoes first. A quarter of the sand dune has now spread throughout our Felix and we decide - sorry, I decide - that we're going to do a little house cleaning today. We air out the mattress and bedding, get our chairs out again and after 20 minutes of house cleaning, we enjoy the day alone in front of our motorhome.

We only interrupt our cosy idleness to make tea, fetch knitting, read a book or take a long nap.

In the evening I look for a photo of a desert fox for Gerd, just in case he doesn't know what else to look out for.

How quickly a whole day can pass.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
