Great Journey 🏴 Day 654

great journey 🏴 day 654 north coast 500. a 500 mile round trip one time

North Coast 500.
A 500-mile circular route once around the north of Scotland. We download the app, which is really great. You can filter by adventures, history or walking routes. And most importantly, the app allows you to read everything offline.

Because that is already a realisation: there will be little internet up here. We take precautions: inform clients and the team about the upcoming "holiday" without internet, download all the maps for offline use and download all the podcast episodes we still want to listen to onto our mobile phones.

So we set off, leaving Inverness with clean laundry, a full fridge and an empty waste water tank. Highlands, here we come!

To begin with, I want to surprise Gerd. We want to look at orcas in the sea. We drive to the coast just in time for high tide, stand right on the shore and take out our Steini, our binoculars. So we would be ready for the orcas. The orcas themselves obviously have other plans today, they don't show up.

At some point we pack our binoculars, I quickly run to the café at the ferry and have a cappuccino filled in my own cup (great, there really are alternatives to cow's milk in the last village, I'm becoming a cappuccino lover...).

We keep a lookout for the ferry. When it lands, I can't believe my eyes. That's supposed to be it? Felix will never fit on it. It doesn't help: Gerd drives off, I hold a cappuccino in one hand and my mobile phone camera in the other, and I can't believe it. He just drives onto it. And 20 minutes later he reverses back down again.

And yet we hadn't even filtered for adventure today....

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
