Germany - 13 h 24 min by Deutsche Bahn to the Baltic Sea. Any questions?

4.59 am "Bye, see you next week!" It's bloody early, the first bus stops just after 5 almost in front of Felix and I set off. The prospect of a week's mum-daughter holiday on the Darss sweetens my day.

But before that, we have a 13-hour train journey. I still have an old pink ribbon hanging from my rucksack, so I brought another patience thread just to be on the safe side. In case the one in me should break.

Needless to say, I get on the Regio trains in Biel, in Olten and later in Basel on the ICE to Hamburg and the train leaves Basel on time. I sit in my reserved seat, write emails, read blog entries, organise appointments and snack from the train picnic box I brought with me.

Freiburg? On time. Frankfurt? Also. Cologne? Don't ask like that, sure, also on time!

Oh, the Deutsche Bahn coffee is still bad. But after three years of travelling around, I'm used to bad coffee. And coffee is always good. Even worse, even sometimes more soluble. Yes, even that one. Even Deutsche Bahn can compete with that.

"Kathi, everything is still on time!", I write to our daughter. "Oh, then there's still enough for a few French rolls in Hamburg!" My goodness, how much she is my daughter. I even passed on my love of French rolls to her.

Arrival in my favourite city Hamburg 5 minutes earlier than planned. So 14 actually turns into 19 minutes of Franzbrötchen-buying-and-transfer time. But what do I see? I'm standing at the stand and have to decide: Pudding, poppy seed, almond, chocolate and even rice pudding French rolls. "Mausi, what should I buy?"

"Do they have normal ones?" I have to ask, I'm confused. No sooner have I been away from Hamburg for three years than they diversify the Franzbrötchen into all flavours. All my time is taken up with variety and decisions.

With Franzbrötchen, the classic ones of course, in the paper bag, I board the ICE train heading for Darß and roll through Meck-Pomm. The land has long been flat, I look forward to our daughter, to the Baltic Sea and to our little furry tomboy.

18:23 hrs. Arrival in Ribnitz-Damgarten. On the minute. And I wonder what the others always have. I like to take the train!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
