Bulgaria's largest bat hotel! Around 35,000 "Flädermüüs" are said to live in the Devitaki cave (Devetàshka cave).
They have it nice here, the bats 🦇 and the many birds 🦅. The bats seemed to be on an excursion today, they weren't there at the moment. The birds showed themselves and made a racket like crazy! Maybe it's just because only the cave tourists like us are out during the day anyway.
The sunlight (in our case the liquid, in rain form) comes through the seven huge openings in the ceiling at a height of almost 100 m and gives the cave something magical.
When Sylvester Stallone and Chuck Norris filmed "Expendables 2" here in the cave in 2011, the "Batman" population unfortunately declined to 8,500. 🙁 But, on the bright side, many more bats are now at home here again.
