After saying goodbye at Bern station (Gerd is now on his way to Georgia), my girlfriend and I head for the Swiss mountains.
Once again we realise how grateful we are to be in the most magical mountain world in just a few hours and hundreds of pass bends. After a nice photo stop at Lake Brienz, we pass the Gadmen Dolomites on our way to the Susten Pass. It's been so long since we've been up here.
We pause every now and then, get out, marvel. Not that I have forgotten how beautiful the Alps are. The experiences of the past year have simply covered up a lot. But now, up here, yes, I feel exactly the same feeling as I did many years ago when Gerd showed me his homeland for the first time and I fell madly in love. With him and with the mountains.
At the top of the Susten Pass we stop for the obligatory Nuss-Gipfeli, we leave the canton of Bern to spend the next few days in the canton of Uri to get to know the hiking mountains.
