Great Journey 🏍 Day 204
The first relief gladdens our hearts: the monastery in Koroni opens its doors again. For 5 months we have been touring the castle, today we can finally visit the monastery of St. John there.

The two nuns we observe working in the convent garden beckon us to come into the garden. We are to discover.

We enter and are immediately thrilled. The peace, the seclusion and the beautiful monastery garden enchant us.

We creep through arcades, climb observation towers and sniff our way along the orange trees that are already in blossom. But only when I draw Gerd's attention to the scent does he sniff too. That's how he is, my love.

In addition to vines and vegetable beds, the nuns also cultivate a variety of trees: orange, fig, olive, mandarin, lemon and two fully hanging clothesline trees.

We read the German translation of the monastery history (hm, early 90s google-translate) and only learn that the monastery was founded in 1918. We can't really make heads or tails of the text, our mobile phone has no reception either, so we leave the research and just stroll around the monastery and onto the monastery walls, which in turn offer a great view of Koroni harbour and Saga Beach.

A small highlight of our Koroni time, which, we feel, is probably coming to an end soon.
