Great Journey 🏍 Day 266
After the initial infatuation with Bulgaria comes disillusionment: the "beach paradises", as they call the Sun and Gold Beaches here, are pure "ugliness" for us. Everything that makes Bulgaria special is ruined here with ugly buildings, mass processing and (almost) ruins.

We are looking for nice places. Very urgently. And high up in the north, just before the Romanian border, we find deserted and unspoilt beaches. There are no sandy beaches or luxury hotels here, but plenty of
Nature.

We observe animals, mostly birds, in the nature reserve at Lake Durankulak, unsuccessfully try our hand at cartwheeling in an athletic yet elegant way (we are alone on the beach, so without a gymnastics jury and paparazzi) and climb around a bit on the cliff in Tyulenovo.

We look for the mud lake for a beauty bath in the mud, but find only reeds, endless reeds. No mud pack. So we have to shine from the inside.

And we watch the sun rise and set and are woken up in the morning by seagulls with loud squawks. A bit too early for our taste. But what the heck, we're up early and make the most of the days.

For those who only associate Bulgaria with Gold Beach or Sunny Beach, Bulgaria can be really ugly (we'll spare ourselves and our camera photos of it). Ugly in the sense of broken, old, junky, violating nature and inhumane.

But if you go in search of it, you will find beautiful Bulgaria. Usually it's just a road junction further on. One bay or beach further and you will find untouched nature without rubbish dumps and forgotten ruins.

PS: And we have a lot of fun on our road trip in our little rental runabout. While I tend to take care of historical, cultural or nature-related "points of interest", our daughter feels responsible for the playlist.
