Greece - Up to Mount Olympus

29 April 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 238
We arrive at a small beach town with a view of Mount Olympus. A small hostel is booked, we unpack our things, are greeted kindly by the landlord with coffee Ellinikó and fresh orange juice.

No, he doesn't have a restaurant. But we could find something in town. We walk past several closed cafés, restaurants and fast food outlets: nothing is open. The young people walk along the beach promenade dressed up, the obligatory frappé-to-go in their hands.

We are starting to get hungry. We find exactly one restaurant that offers pizza and club sandwich to-go. Gerd decides on club sandwiches, he turns down my offer to cook something. After 8 hours on the motorbike, he just wants to eat something quickly and then go to sleep.

We stroll back with the club sandwich in hand and are received frantically by the hostel father. We have to move out, he is not allowed to have guests. He can't explain why. He looks crumpled and apologises several times.

By now it is half past eight, Gerd walks through the town again and asks at the front doors if we can find somewhere to stay (unfortunately the camping site is not open yet) and actually finds a room a few houses away. When he comes back, I already have all our stuff together and we move. 10 minutes later we are sitting in our new room, looking at each other and finding once again that the strangest things happen but we are a great team.

PS: There are no pictures of this (we were a bit stressed), but there is a picture of the most amazing Malou chauffeur on the way straight to Olympus.
