Greece - hot springs by the roadside

28 April 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 237
When we "set out" to visit Greece, I pinned a number of needles on my google maps. It was impossible to cover them all. That became clear pretty quickly. But at least a few, I thought. Okay, then the lockdown came and our "wishes" thwarted themselves.

But now that we are travelling again, heading north on the grounds that we still have to leave the country within the permitted 6 months, I am on the lookout for any wish-location needles that are on our way.

And who would have thought it, exactly halfway through our long day trip of 8 hours there is a small wellness oasis. A hot spring, only a few metres from the main road and almost empty.

An elderly couple is already enjoying themselves there, the gentleman smiles at us, looks at our number plate and calls out to us: "Welcome to my Country!"

We quickly throw off our clothes, slip into our swimsuits and jump into the warm (actually hot!) water.

The gentleman tells us that he has been to Switzerland several times, smiles when we tell him that Bern, not Zurich, is the capital and goes on to say that his mum used to bathe here every day in this hot spring and turned 102.

So we decide to stay in for a few more minutes. Who knows what that's good for.
