Great Journey 🏍 Day 356
Rest. Sofa day. Somehow we feel a great need for sofa & view right now. And we don't know how exactly to describe it ourselves.
The village of Kazbegi itself is all in one: a reception point for tourists before they set off on a mountain hike, riding high on horseback through the valleys and over the mountains. But also to be able to simply unwind.
On the street, taxi drivers call out their services to us, dogs look at us with that typical "I'm about to starve to death" look and the restaurants seem to have colluded in creating their menus. So it's a real nice tourist village.
The good thing about tourist places is that there are reasons for it! In this case, this incredibly beautiful nature, the energy of peace and serenity. The view and the clear air.
We, actually Gerd as usual, find a sweet hotel, opened just 7 days ago. And we settle in here for just under a week. We sit in the common room and meet wonderful people from Ukraine, Poland, Russia and Belarus. We stare at the mountains (and yes, also at our laptops) and whenever a thought of planning our onward journey briefly flares up, we quickly try to banish it. With staring at mountains, reading books, sorting photos or just talking. Sometimes we even try our hand at cards, and I let him win until I get a bit grumpy. Because losing all the time is not really my thing.
In the village we learn that in winter the road is partly closed, too much snow. There would then be a cable car above the village for the residents.
As I write this, I look out the window at the snow-covered 5000-metre peak, close enough to touch, with the Trinity Church, Georgia's landmark, romantically draped in front of it.
See how clouds, sun and today actually rain alternate again and again. Because today is a sofa day. One of the really good sofa days. In a really good place: Stepandsminda or Kazbegi, depending on your preference. For us, a little home away from home.
