A Postbus Tour in Goethe's Footsteps to the Rosenlaui Gorge

My friend Ini came to visit us. And every time she comes to visit us, the sun shines! I just say: when angels travel!

Up to the Rosenlaui Gorge

And I'm running out of excursions we could do. Hiking is not her thing, so I found a postbus tour. Through beautiful nature. We drove from our home to Grindelwald, there we changed to the post bus line that goes to Meiringen to the Aare gorge. Once through the whole of Grindelwald, up to Grosse Scheidegg and over to Schwarzwaldalp to Rosenlaui. Here we got off and hiked through the gorge, a dreamlike gorge. i think this is the most energetic gorge i know. They say it is also a very special place of power. I can only confirm that.

Later we wandered through the Hotel Rosenlaui and had a small belated lunch. Then we took the penultimate Postbus back to Grindelwald, had a last coffee in the sight of the setting sun and the north face of the Eiger and let the day end. THAT is quality of life! Thank you Ini, for always taking part in my excursions. Thank you for being my friend! It was once again a wonderful day with you.

Until next time,
Heike

Here is the description from the Postbus website:

  • From Meiringen, the Rosenlaui line takes you past the famous Rosenlaui Gorge to the quiet mountain hamlet of Schwarzwaldalp. Meiringen is considered the place where meringues were invented and a Mecca for amateur detectives. In the Sherlock Holmes Museum, the master detective's study is authentically recreated. The Reichenbach Railway takes you to the famous Reichenbach Falls. In the Hasli Landscape Museum you can learn more about the culture of the Hasli Valley. You should not miss the Aare Gorge at the end of Meiringen (PostBus stop Meiringen, railway station).
  • On the way to Schwarzwaldalp you pass the famous Rosenlaui glacier gorge (PostBus stop Gletscherschlucht). Here the water rages through narrow rock crevices and mystical grottos. On a footbridge you can enjoy the wild beauty of the gorge at your leisure. The Belle Epoque Hotel Rosenlaui invites you to stay (PostBus stop Rosenlaui, hotel). In Schwarzwaldalp it is worth visiting the old water-powered saw (PostBus stop Schwarzwaldalp).
  • There are also great hikes from Schwarzwaldalp. As early as 1779, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe discovered the beautiful Rosenlaui valley during his hike over the Grosse Scheidegg. You reach Grosse Scheidegg via Alpigen and a high-level trail leads to the First mountain station. In summer, a bus connects Schwarzwaldalp with the famous resort of Grindelwald via Grosse Scheidegg. For sledging fans, the 5.5 km long sled run from Grosse Scheidegg to Schwarzwaldalp is special fun.
  • The Rosenlaui line is also part of the legendary Grossen Scheidegg round trip. From here you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. By train, bus, Postbus and boat, you travel from Interlaken, East via Grindelwald over the Grosse Scheidegg through the Rosenlaui valley to Meiringen. From Meiringen via Brienz on Lake Brienz back to the starting point Interlaken, East.
