Sunday morning. The sea roars. Dogs are barking outside. I decide to get up and greet the day with a coffee and clattering knitting needles.
Unfortunately, I realise too late that it is only 5 o'clock. But now I am awake. The coffee does the rest. I let Gerd sleep, it is Sunday after all.
I use the quiet time I enjoy so much in the morning to plan my route. I browse through websites, mark gardens, castles, parks and museums on my paper map.
At some point, 4.5 hours after the waking sound of waves and barking dogs, we set off for Flatford in the nature park. Enchanting paths lead along the tranquil River Stour, offering breathtaking views of the landscape that inspired John Constable's paintings.
We watch the English on their "Sunday outing", photograph countless flowers ("Why?" I ask myself time and again) and get to talk to some of the many volunteers here who are totally thrilled to be able to explain and show us everything.
After all, we are now NationalTrust members. So with our annual membership we contribute to the preservation of old parks, gardens, buildings and museums worthy of protection. Feels good.

Merci for "travelling with us
We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.
