Iran - Past fairytale mountain scenery to the sea

Iran - Past fairytale mountain scenery to the sea

The sea is calling, we are just outside the Persian Gulf. The weather forecast promises nice, warm weather.

And so we set off, our hearts still filled with the family we have just left and a few foodstuffs in the fridge that we want to eat over the next few days.

"Here's a shortcut!" says Gerd, turning back onto the dual carriageway and driving back a few metres in the wrong lane. "It goes up into the mountains here," he says laconically. The road looks more like a rough track, a normal Iranian road would be fine with me. But well, my chauffeur now has the Budda calm Persian car driver style (even if he doesn't have a Budda figure yet).

So we push our Felix up the dusty hairpin bends. Only to find ourselves in a dream setting shortly afterwards. After every bend, we exclaim: "Wow, so beautiful!" The camera snaps for all it's worth, I've come to terms with the route. Incidentally, the road surface changes, it gets better and lorries actually come towards us. And yes, they overtake us too.

We forget that we are taking a 20 kilometre shortcut and need an hour longer to get there. We don't even know what the mountain range is called here, but it is definitely a folded mountain range and borders the sea. Because these mountains will also accompany and inspire us on the coastal road over the next few days.

At the top, somewhere on a small bend in the pass, we take a break. We snack on the first part of our snack from "our" favourite restaurant and send a photo of the successful picnic to our patrons.

We continue on, the road now winds up and down, but at some point we are stopped by friendly policemen. We'd better not take any photos, as this is not only a "beautiful mountain", but also an industrial area. Oh well, then. We put the camera away and enjoy the rest of the route with our eyes.

Then we reach the Persian Gulf. Instead of a simple pitch, we find a mega-sweet hostel and are once again allowed to stand outside its door and use all the hostel's amenities. But more about that another time!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
