Greece - "Our" cat has babies

14 April 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 225
Since last Friday we are "grandparents" of 4 cuddly kittens.
Our landlady's cat had been making herself comfortable with us for weeks, she seemed to like it. Food free plus constant cuddling.

And then she became more and more bulbous, I wonder if it was the food? Our landlady smiled at our naivety and certified: "In one or two weeks it will be time!

We got a box and lined it with towels, rolled an older blanket into the corner behind the TV (which we never turn on anyway) and hoped that she would like one of the seats on offer better than our sofa or even the bed.

While Gerd and I were engrossed in our work, there was a sudden squeak from behind the television. And there they were, the kittens. Two tigers, two black and white. Tiny and safe and sound. We moved our chairs from the balcony with the view of the sea to the cat corner, because we wanted to be close to the action and still keep a good distance from "our" offspring. Never before have we seen such tiny kittens.

We marvel at the different characteristics of the little ones, admire the stamina of the mama cat and, on the side, probably have to order a new hard drive to store all the pictures that now end up on our mobile phones.

Then, on Sunday evening, we lie on the sofa, mummy cat jumps in, crawls under Gerd's sleeping bag, looks around and brings one baby after the other into her newly discovered cave. Gerd lies there, now has to bend his knees more and more and already they are all living in his sleeping bag. Apparently they are visibly better off there than on the blanket on the cold floor.

All 5 fall asleep immediately, Gerd gently crawls out of the sleeping bag, moves to my half of the sofa and the "hostile sofa takeover" has gone off successfully.

Since then, the cat family has been living on the sofa and in one of our sleeping bags. So much for "We had planned it differently!
