Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 721/2

Great Journey - Ireland - Day 721/2

I can say it in advance: We will not see any more whales today. Nevertheless, we have tears in our eyes when the first school of dolphins dives below us.

They play around us, surface, splash into the water next to the boat and, what impresses us most, swim in formation next to each other.

At first we only see the dorsal fins. Then the dolphin bodies shine in the water, glide out super elegantly to jump and dive back in again with equal elegance. Better than watching any synchronised swimming.

Of course, our camera doesn't do what it's supposed to. The sports mode has been defective for months and we refused to buy a new one. Tonight we will be annoyed about it. But our smartphones manage to make some nice films and while everyone on the boat is holding their phones, I suddenly lower mine and think: I want to look at the dolphins, I want to enjoy it. I don't want to film now. Tears roll down my face and once again I am only in the moment.

What an impressive moment.

A little later, we are quite tired, too much sun and possibly also too much looking-at-the-water concentration, we sit with the captain and he tells us that just yesterday he discovered little baby dolphins. Maybe two weeks old? From the big group, a few mamas always separate with their babies and try to be rather quiet.

The captain discovers them, switches off the boat engine and we float (rock!!!) in the sea and the small and large dolphins swim around us. They still have to practise their synchronised swimming, it's a bit of a criss-cross. But we are very happy about it. The smallest ones are about 80 cm long (we estimate, so we could be wrong) and are just cute!

Until three weeks ago, we really had no idea HOW much Ireland would impress us. Today was one of those days we will probably never forget. Thank you. Thank you. And thank you again.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
