Hungary - Saturday evening in Szeged

Hungary - Saturday evening in Szeged

"Come on, let's go south!"
"Okay, but we need to find a good place to work."

So I lure my husband to Szeged. The goulash in particular should be a talking point there. Happy to get out of Budapest, we reach the south of the country a few hours later. I find a well-lit parking space right in front of the town hall. And, as we learn later, it is also framed by the Christmas carillon every hour at night.

I'm also happy about the nearby launderette. What could be nicer than spending an Advent evening in a launderette? So we make ourselves comfortable. The last German speculoos, a pot of tea, the clattering of the knitting needles and the cosy sound of the laundry in the drum.

But at some point, even this romantic part of the day is over and we stroll through the Christmas hustle and bustle of the city. Oopsala, another Christmas market. Is there such a thing? Without Szeged goulash, we quickly get our fill there too, only to have to queue again a little later: The traditional Kürtőskalács, called Trdelnik in the Czech Republic, Baumstriezeln or Schornsteinkuchen in Germany, have to be eaten again.

In the evening, next to our town hall, we think. What could we do here in the city on Sunday? Nothing, we think. And then a thought occurs to us: the motorways are empty on Sundays.

"We're travelling to Bulgaria at the first cockcrow! Once across Serbia, down to Sofia!" "It's a deal, except that we'll probably be woken up by Christmas music from the town hall bells instead of the cockcrow!"

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
