Great Journey 🏍 Day 271
Today there is some history. Pretty old history.

When we arrive and get the early 2000s google-translate description sheet from the lady at the ticket booth, we also believe that they are really telling us a story here.

Or want to pull a fast one. Or maybe even did a fantasy competition and the best story won.

So we trudge through a forest, encountering round, square, semi-circular and semi-cornered stones in the undergrowth and are now supposed to realise that here was the bed of the gods, there the throne of the master of ceremonies and high above, olive oil, milk and whatnot flowed through.

We ponder whether a) we have lost the seriousness or b) we lack the historical-spiritual access or c) it is all due to the poor translation.

Gerd takes photos anyway, I sit on the stone that is supposed to be a pillow and read through my guidebook.

He even has something exciting to offer about this site: The then communist Bulgarian leader, Todor Zhivkov, (reigned 1954-1989) had his hunting residence here south of Sozopol, and of course it was not accessible to ordinary mortals, i.e. the people. Which - by the way - was great for nature conservation. No giant hotels were allowed to be built here. (The hunting thing is a different matter, but as a convinced veggie, I don't like it either).

So at some point after the liberation of Bulgaria, this hunting ground was released and the rock sanctuary "Beglik Tash" was built.
made accessible. For a nice hike, a cosy picnic and a bit of climbing, the place is beautiful. On the way south, this detour is well worth it!
