Great Journey 🏍 Day 333
We do indeed manage to leave Tamer, Emire and his family. With heavy hearts, fully recovered and full for months, we roll on towards the east: the volcano Nemrut is calling. We hear it very clearly.

If we already liked Mount Nemrut so much, the Nemrut volcano will do the same. The 3050 m high and (hopefully) dormant volcano has a crater lake to which a road is supposed to wind.

Instead of the usual 40 degrees, a refreshing 25 degrees, we suddenly feel chilly. Then a half-heartedly paved road leads down to the lake. The view from the crater rim is phenomenal. Next to the crater lake, we suddenly drive through a green birch forest and arrive at the lake shore.

We have never been on a volcano before, let alone in a crater. We feel a bit like the little prince, except that we don't have to sweep the volcano every day. Because: "you never know!". We trust that if Nemrut the King wants to get going, then please definitely not today.

Some Turkish families are picnicking here at the crater lake, of course we have to eat right along with them. For once I have the vegetarian excuse that I can't eat any more. OK, if I can't eat with them, then at least I can practise my English. So we chat a bit with the kids.

We cool our boots off a bit in the lake, hoping that the feet inside will also get some freshness. In the process I learn that my waterproof boots can no longer show off all their qualities if you stand too deep in the lake and the water runs in from above. They could have told me that beforehand. But anyway, what else can you do for a photo standing in the lake?

Later, we are already sitting on Malou, just about to leave, but have to dismount again. The picnicking Kurdish family wants to share their food with us. All my defence mechanisms fail when it comes to watermelon: melon goes everywhere and always.
