Great Journey 🏍 Day 273
On the way to Varna, there's actually a little needle in my google maps wish list. A small diversions and we are already at a fortress. Even our "little one" likes this cultural-historical place on earth. (In the meantime, she refuses a bit to work off mum's wish list).

The Krepost Oveč, the fortress of Ovech, is more of a lookout point for the residents of the area, it feels a bit like "We'll go up there on Sunday afternoon for a picnic!". Legend has it that even Noah stopped here with his ark for a picnic. And we learn that an Israeli businessman had the entire area lavishly restored. When and why, however, remains a mystery to us.

We stroll along the unpaved edge, look into the 25-m deep depth and the far distance. And we are approached by a Bulgarian who is willing to learn German. Gerd plays the drone game and chats with the man in his usual calmness, Kathi and I walk the entire fortress. From one end to the other.

After an hour we have seen everything, read everything and photographed everything and come back to the wooden bridge, where my dear husband is still, by now philosophising about the meaning of life, talking to the Bulgarian and filling up his language-learning karma account mightily.

Somehow we manage to get on after all. Finally, another important appointment is waiting for us: Kathi has to have a PCR test for her return journey to Berlin and we want to stroll around Varna a bit, after all it has been an exciting day.
