Always the same topic: what to do when it rains all day?
Okay, let's be honest: it doesn't rain all day. It winds, it storms, it snows. Sometimes the hail hits Felix. And in between - very briefly - two or three rays of sunshine appear. But always at the back, where we are not at the moment.
So it's museum time once again. We are once again in front of closed doors, because - does it never end? - we are half an hour early.
When the Viking Museum opens its doors, the museum is ours. We listen to the stories that simply reach our ears via mobile phone - once again even in German with the most beautiful accent we have ever heard. We admit we had no idea what it was like with the Vikings. We got all our knowledge from the cartoon series "Wickie und die starken Männer".
That is about to change!
Borg was one of the 10 Viking chiefdoms in northern Norway. The 83-metre long longhouse reconstructed here surprises us in size, in craftsmanship and above all: once again we are allowed to feel everything ourselves: Let the spinning wheels turn, put on the clothes, check the tools. We are even allowed to carry swords and all the weaponry around in detail. The only thing we should avoid is hurting or even killing other people with them, mentions the museum Viking. We look around, we are alone. No enemies in sight. So no danger.
In the museum and also in the nave, there are countless genuine old objects that were recovered during excavations and research here directly on site.
Unfortunately, the surrounding museum area is closed due to deep snow, so we have to do without axe throwing, tree trunk rolling or archery. But that doesn't matter at all, because we spend almost half the day in the museum and the longhouse and afterwards in the super nice cafeteria!
