Great Journey 🇳🇴 Day 547
Go to Lofoten, they said.
It's beautiful there, they said.
Now we are finally here and looking for the hiding beauty. Because obviously the Lofoten Islands are going through a phase of defiance and are showing their shittiest side.
We drive through pouring, liquid sun, the road surface glistening between frozen and rain sheen. Uphill to the enchanting campsite by the fjord, Felix just doesn't want to go on, slides back slowly, nestling up against the guardrail with the utmost elegance. Later we christen him "expedition vehicle" because of the scratches and only now find him really "groovy". OK, then we'll find another parking space.
We find our luck in a petrol station. Warm chocolate rolls, a German-learning saleswoman ("You stay here now and speak German with me. I have to practise. And it's not nice outside anyway!") and thawed sewage pipes! The little pleasures on a Sunday morning.
At some point we sail on, Felix thinks he's a heeling dinghy and rocks across the beautiful (ha!) Lofoten in winds of almost 100 kilometres per hour. We hang ourselves in the harness (well, I do, still have the feeling that it would do any good) and find rainy days stupid.
In the beautiful town of Svolvær (oh, it has a war museum, we pacifists just need that!) we stop and park on the most romantic spot ever between the petrol station and the employment office. All around us rain, slushy sludge on the road and not a single cosy café.
Time for Café Felix: blueberry pancakes, fresh coffee and the spread-out map of Europe. We plan our route. We want to be in Switzerland in April. And we realise: only 5 weeks left, it's going to be tight. After the third pancake, we postpone the decision until later.
Dear Lofoten, we are now working for 2 more days, but from Wednesday we would be ready for sun and your famous prettiness!
