Great Journey 🏍 Day 283
Troy.
Of course I'm prepared 😉 I dig out Schliemann's biography from the back of my mind. On the journey to Troy (only 25 km) Gerd learns everything he needs to know. Well, what I think he needs to know.

We stroll through the excavation sites almost all by ourselves. Old stones. Dick sums it up: "I pay to see old stones." And yet it is more. At times we can briefly close our eyes and imagine what it must have been like. Back then. The fact that this "then" could even be 5000 years ago is not quite tangible.

What I didn't remember was the many eras of Troy that were excavated there. We imagine it is not so easy to dig out one of them, to clear it away in order to get to the one underneath. Because then the newer city would be destroyed. It's good that we don't have to worry about that.

After a good hour of walking around and two hours of Çay in the shade, we set off for the Troy Museum.

Here we are actually thrilled. It is a feast for the eyes (besides the thoroughly impressive exhibition and the palpable architecture of Yalın Mimarlık) to see really good typography, perfect infographics and a sophisticated exhibition concept. My heart leaps.
