I am standing in front of the hotel with my Malou packed. My two new motorcyclist friends want to help me get a PCR test valid in Greece. The plan looks like this:
1️⃣ You have to get a number
2️⃣ You have to use it to make a deposit at a specific bank.
3️⃣ Then you go for testing with all the paperwork
4️⃣ I would have had to wait and possibly crossed the border into Greece today. Possibly because the land border from Turkey to Greece was only of limited use.
We go through everything again, Hans even offers to come along.
And then Matthias is standing there, he wants to take the motorail train from Edirne to Villach, Austria today, let himself chug comfortably over the Balkans for 35 hours and then continue kürveling on his motorbike from Austria.
Instead of sending my beloved a "good morning greeting" I write her: "I have a plan, let's see, get in touch."
I don't quite remember what led to the decision, but suddenly I'm sitting on Malou, following Matthias to Edirne, buying one of the last tickets for Malou in the coach and me in the sleeping car, still desperately looking for an ATM, because the tickets can only be paid for in cash in euros. The railway people organise a taxi ride for me through Edirne for this damn test, which I still need.
And "Ei der Daus!" we stand with our motorbikes in front of these wagons, wait, do all the border customs stuff until we can finally ride up and look forward to the comfortable ride through Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia to Austria.
And now, it's 6 p.m. Turkish time, I remember that I wanted to contact Heike. I hope she'll forgive my lack of communication when I announce that I'm skipping a few countries and coming home a lot earlier than planned.
