We find a pitch directly on the beach. We put Felix back so that in the morning we can look out of bed directly onto the sea. What luxury.
And we quickly learn that beach pitches are dog-round parking spaces. And one thing we notice immediately: there are lots of dogs!
Towards evening, the frequency of arrivals and departures decreases, and as soon as the sun sets, it becomes quiet and we make ourselves comfortable.
Here we meet an older permanent camper couple who provide us with lots of information. We don't understand everything. And they don't understand some of it. Only when they notice that we have the steering wheel on the other side do they look enlightened and now know that we have different gas connections. That we come "from the continent".
We all agree that driving around London is a good idea and we learn from them that laundries in city centres are preferable to campsites. We learn where it is good to shop and where gas bottles can be exchanged. We give up explaining that we don't need to change bottles. Apparently our English is grotty or some other reason unknown to us is responsible for this misunderstanding.
We take a long walk on the beach, let the wind blow our heads clear and look at ourselves: we're really here now, aren't we?
