After days in the (big) city, we are drawn to the countryside. Felix rolls comfortably through England, he and we are drawn further and further north.
We often get the impression of driving through hedge-lined tunnels and learn that England has 320,000 kilometres of hedges along its country roads. Visibility around the bend is not always given, so it's up to me as a co-driver. Because if you drive left-hand drive in England, you don't always have the best view around the bend.
When we arrive at Angelsey Abbey, we still think it is an old building to be visited. We quickly go inside and continue.
3 hours and 14,000 steps later, we are sitting in the Felix again. The 400,000 sqm park-like property with its winding paths, enchanting gardens and huge avenues is worth more time than "just a quick visit".
Here we meet many volunteers again who talk to us everywhere and tell us what it was like back then. I don't even dare to think that they must have experienced it all themselves.
In Baron Fairhaven's bedchamber there is a lady again, she smiles graciously and I whisper to Gerd, look, she looks just like the woman yesterday in King's Chapel. We talk to her, she tells us a lot about the collection and about the whole building here.
I can't stand it, I have to tell her that I think I saw her yesterday in King's Chapel, but I'm not sure. And she says, in her best British English: "Yes, you did! We laugh and I mention that I was reminded of her wonderful smile, which radiates such kindness.
She gives us that same smile again as a farewell gift. Thank you, "Mrs McGonagall"!
