Great Journey 🏴 Day 649

great journey 🏴 day 649 hole muick. our first hole. or do you say our

Loch Muick.
Our first hole. Or do you say: Our first hole?
And no, we're not talking about golf, that's for those who are already grown up!

By the way, lakes are called holes here, mountains are called glens here and real mountains, those over 914.4 metres, are called munros. It's worth knowing.

We drive to the royal holiday residence and hunting lodge at Loch Muick. Dead end again, single track road again. Again winding line and evasive manoeuvres.

We spend the evening playing cards, talking and so on. We have zero internet reception back here, so we have to keep each other busy.

In the morning we set off on our first hike. The car park around us fills up with outdoor-professional-clad people with multi-purpose backpacks and everything pipapo. Everyone is wearing many layers, including rain gear. And caps.

Since we don't have all that (except hats), our hats and windbreakers will have to do. In our luggage we add the hope that it won't rain.

We start hiking, almost 6 kilometres against the strongest wind we have had so far. The wind is also partly fluid. We walk along the shore of Loch Muick with "almost no visibility". Always the hill-mountains in view. Only the hope that the tailwind on the 6-kilometre return route will make the walk easier allows us to puff along.

At the hunting lodge (everything is closed, no queen and all that) we take a break and a little later let the wind carry us home. Here we turn up the heating, we need to warm up and let our clothes dry.

In the guidebook we read that the lochs in the Scottish Highlands are so beautiful to look at, the mountains are beautifully reflected in them. Oh yes.

We are still hoping for sunshine. And also for temperatures above 14 degrees. After all, it is summer.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
