Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 728

Grand Tour - Ireland - Day 728

The harbour master in Galway knew: If you get up early, you get more out of the day.

So we set off, today to the Caribbean. Or South Seas. Already in Scotland we were sometimes really surprised how white the beaches, how clear the water and how turquoise the sea can shine.

While the day began in the typical grey of rain, the clouds are moving away more and more. On the coral beach we collect tiny bone-like limestone coral remains. The hike there on the beach ruffles our hair and makes us freeze. The wind is strong and we just don't feel like being shaken here in Felix.

Heinrich Böll writes in his "Irish Diary" about the different blues of the sea. While the audio book sounds through Felix's loudspeakers and we follow Heinrich Böll's acoustically on our own journey to Ireland, we end up on a double beach. Here we understand what he means by the blueness.

So, the day is still young and the South Seas await us at Gurteen & Dogs Bay. But what we don't know beforehand.

Felix stands in the front row at the beach car park, Gerd crawls into the nest a little overtired (you move him around the house once and he's tired for days!) and I throw off my shoes, roll up my trousers and hike the Caribbean.

As my bare feet tread the clear water and white beach, I remember what cognitive dissonance is: I had really suspected that this must be warmer somehow. Now that the sun was shining too and Felix felt like a sauna, I had definitely assumed that the North Atlantic here was bathtub temperature. But it wasn't. No bathing and all that.

Again and again I realise (I have to feel it, it has nothing to do with logic!) why the bathers here all and exclusively go into the water with neoprene suits.

After a long walk to cool my feet, I arrive fresh and alert at my husband's, who, I hope, has had a good night's sleep and with whom I can discuss the rest of the day. Let's see what today brings us. For my part, I could stay here for days.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!

I felt that way in Sardinia a few years ago. 👍
If I had known earlier how beautiful it is there, I would never have flown to the Caribbean.
Would have saved a lot of money, time and resources.

Well, you're always smarter afterwards. 😁😉
