It comes differently. We don't stay on the dream beach.
Because by now we have figured out the system: If there is an official campsite in a nice place, there are "No overnight Parking" signs at all the normal car parks. If there is no campsite far and wide, it's easy to park freely.
We have not been to a campsite once since we have been in Ireland, the free pitches here are so beautiful and mostly secluded that we prefer it.
By the way, we prefer the word "free-standing" to the common word "wild camping". For us it is a small, yet subtle difference: we do not behave wildly. We simply stand around freely in the area.
We pick up litter if there is any where we are standing. We always leave the place cleaner than we came, we don't get in anyone's way and if we notice that we are getting too close to residents or that they are uncomfortable with us being here, we move on.
So far, this has worked out fabulously in Ireland. We often get to talk to people, get to know all the different breeds of dog (because it's great to chat about their dogs) and then we also check out whether it's OK with them that we want to spend the night here.
Often we get tips or just read in their eyes how happy they are that we have chosen this beautiful spot here for our trip.
And yes, today we have once again caught one of these almost lonely and beautiful spots on earth. At low tide the beach is bright white, in the evening, when the tide brings not only water but also the wind and many clouds, we feel something of the "Wild Altantic Way" again and make ourselves comfortable in our cosy lookout, high above the sea.
Merci for "travelling with us
We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

wow - what pictures ! no other people far and wide. I drove along the Ligurian coast at the end of May - every little spot was built on, blocked off, parked over or forbidden to stop... a really stark contrast.
Oh yes, the Ligurian coast is actually still on our wish list. And now you're coming!
So: off to Ireland on your next holiday! Whether with a motorbike or a Gustl 😉
Kind regards - Heike
