Tunisia - Working on the beach in Sousse

Tunisia - Working on the beach in Sousse

In a few days we get a visit from home. Now we slowly roll towards the coast and successfully bypass Kairouan for the second time due to sightseeing fatigue.

On the way we buy another loaf of bread and once again experience the separation of men and women. We are standing in the queue at the bread stall when I, as a woman, am told that I should not (may? can?) queue here, that I should please go to the other queue, which I cannot find. Hm, strange situation. I move a little away from the "men's queue", am confused because there is no "women's queue" and take a photo in the meantime. But as it is: wait and see. At some point it's Gerd's turn, he buys two baguettes and we disappear. We didn't understand it, but well, we don't understand everything people come up with in Switzerland either.

In Sousse we move into our quarters on the beach. With a view of the sea, the beach bar within reach. Our home office van does really well: the rising sun warms through the windows, we have to walk exactly 10 steps during our lunch break and are deliciously spoiled by the host of the beach bar. Lunch break with bare feet in the sand, turquoise blue water in sight (of course much too cold for us bibbers!), bright sunshine and freshly squeezed orange juice to start: what more could you want?

After three wonderful days at work, we set off to pick up our friend from Hammamet. On the way, we have our Felix washed once again spotless, after all, we don't want to underpin our reputation as drifters with a sandy little house. We decorate the table with a bowl of fresh dates, in the Tunisian bowl of course, and wait for our friend.

And are curious how she feels about the country we have come to love so much.

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter
