Turkey - Tuz Gölü

18 July 2021

Great Journey 🏍 Day 316
Today we are once again fulfilling our self-imposed educational mandate:
Tuz = Salt (you can always use it)
Gölü = lake (you need it from time to time when travelling, because all lakes here are called Gölü).

That probably says the most important thing. Then there is information about Tuz Gölü, the salt lake. It is one of the largest inland lakes in Turkey, it lies at a pleasant 1000 metres and thus at a pleasant temperature below 30 degrees. Besides, there is hardly any water in it, in fact you can see different coloured salt crusts far and wide. We trudge around on the salt and also pass a salt harvesting plant, drive past everlasting white mountains.

In addition, around 320,000 pelicans live here from spring to summer, but they didn't show themselves to us and we didn't want to go completely around the lake. Because it's really big! So, today sightseeing without sight. And actually even without a great sunset, because after 6 hours of driving we took a "short" nap. We woke up in the dark. So no more sunset photos. After a short dinner, we decide to go straight back to sleep. What else should we do? Because tomorrow we're off to Cappadocia.
