Autumn is so beautiful, they said! I should look forward to autumn in Switzerland, I hear everywhere.
OK, let's get going. In beautiful rain and wind forces to fly away, I set off to look down from the Chasseral onto the Three Lakes Country. The Alps should be visible in the not too distant future.
The path up to the 1600 metre high elevation (they don't call it a mountain!) leads between Lakes Neuchâtel and Biel, past vineyards that are slowly beginning to glow in autumnal colours.
Today there is no sun to make the foliage glow. Today there is real glitter, rain-soaked glitter! And already I think that, having reached the top, I will be pretty much alone.
No way! Quite a few cyclists (those who pedal up the mountains with tight calves, small mini-bums and crooked backs and for whom I have the greatest respect), over 30 motorcyclists from the far north of Germany and the many many Sunday excursionists (including me) meet here.
When nut croissants come fresh from the kitchen, I feel faint and grab them. But the storm is so strong that chairs fly. And before I can even take a photo of the Nussgipfeli, I take it to safety: I eat it. Only to be quickly exposed to the rain again. After all - they said - I should enjoy the autumn!
