Great Journey Day 698/2

big trip day 6982 we just can't do it just driving from a to b. in birmingha

We just can't do it: just drive from A to B. In Birmingham we meet two Welsh people and they rave to us about a double-via-aquä-duct in their homeland.

OK, and because it's on the way, we stop there, walk a little way from the car park to the aqueduct and are quite amazed: the structure, begun in 1796, has a foot on top. The houseboats sailing everywhere here (I wonder if we should have one of those too...) simply cross the bridge. We chat briefly with the boat people, as they are in a "boat jam" and we take photos of them without being asked.

Right next to it, the railway viaduct, a little elevated, looks very pretty in the light.

The viaduct separates, no, actually it connects England and Wales. So we do some funny country hopping until even that is no longer funny. Because we have one destination: Liverpool. And only one thing there: the ferry!

Late into the evening we drive overland to Liverpool, take a short walk on the beach with its 100 iron figures standing in the sand and having the water up to their necks at high tide, eat a last English soft ice cream and crawl into the nest: because the alarm clock will wake us up very very early tomorrow morning!

Merci for "travelling with us

We are thinking about taking another break from travelling in the summer and visiting our families in Germany and Switzerland. One of the ideas is to organise a Lecture about our long journey to the Persian Gulf to prepare. If you would like to, what would interest you the most? We will also tell stories here that don't find a place here on the blog. We're thinking of the Bern and Berlin area - simply because we have family there. But other places are also conceivable. Feel free to write to us.

Do you think our travel experiences might be of interest to others? Then you can share the Share post quietly. By e-mail or however you want to do it.

In addition, if you haven't already done so, you can use our Newsletter subscribe. Here you will receive all our experiences in your mailbox whenever we publish something new or once a week on Fridays: live-pur.ch/newsletter

We are also very happy to hear your views, your tips or your questions. Just comment on the post!
