Great Journey 🇨🇭 Day 435
Anyone who ever waited for Christmas as a child knows what I mean. The time just before seems to stretch out. And seems much longer than necessary.

That's more or less what happened to our new home. Things we thought we needed were ready days before, the flat was ready to be handed over. The only thing that didn't want to get closer was the pick-up date.

But then, time cannot be tricked, the time had come. Gerd was cool as usual, I brought anticipation and excitement for both of us. Markus Hirschi calmly explained all the little buttons and levers to us. Every little corner and every inconspicuous but useful function was demonstrated to us at least once.

This is how priorities and thoughts are distributed: I've already put things away in my mind, hoped that I'll be able to stow away all the cooking utensils and knitting, dreamt about how our cosy bed might feel and thought about what would be useful and quickly accessible in which compartment (and there are many!). Meanwhile, Gerd's thoughts revolved around engine oil levels and changing gas bottles, forced emptying of the water tank in frosty weather and remote control of the car radio. Thank you, Gerd!

When we were finally able to leave, we first went to the Landi scales. We quickly realised that we had to rethink the idea of having so many kitchen utensils. (I won't discuss wool with you).

And then everything happened very quickly: all the boxes and crates found their way into our home, the cupboards are not nearly half full, the bed is as cosy as I had imagined, the first pictures are hanging on the wall and the heating is running. We spent our first night "outside" in a small village south of Bern with a view of autumnal fields lying under a thick fog.

And what shall we say?
It feels right and good. We're approaching vanlife, we're still constantly looking for reading glasses and we think it's great (after my initial headshakes at humanity) that we can start the radio in the morning from bed with the remote control.

We are on the road again!
